First 90 Days & Eating Healthier

Welcome everyone; this is my 90th  post and I just want to express my gratitude for all of you nice people out there that have read my posts so far and I sincerely hope that you will continue to read them. It would be great if you told all your friends and relatives about my blog, if you feel that they might benefit from it. If I am giving you information you can use please let me know and if not, let me know that as well. I have to just guess about what information that you might need, might be receptive to and more important, what you will use in your own life’s journey. Please tell me if there is a subject that you need to know more about. If you have a problem and you are stumped as to what to do about it, let me know. If I have an idea what to do; I will tell you, if not I will try to find the answer for you. Maybe one of my readers have had the same problem. I will not release any personal information that you may give me. We can be a community and help each other, and that is my hope.

Today I am going to offer some tips on how to eat healthier. The American Institute of Cancer Research (AICR) says that if we don’t smoke, the best thing we can do to prevent cancer is to lose weight. We all know that being overweight also causes or contributes to many more chronic conditions as well. So the healthier we eat, the healthier we are.

The National Institutes of Health working with over half a million AARP volunteers fifty and older since 1995, has shown a clear link between diet and health, diet and cancer in older Americans. They have linked red meat to a higher risk for cancer, especially colon cancer. Generally available red meats are beef, pork and lamb. Being naturally high in iron my be a factor but the way we cook it seems to be the major factor. We are a nation that loves to grill, barbecue and fry our food, especially our meats. When meats are cooked at high heat either by frying, broiling, baking, or grilling; cancer-causing compounds are formed. If there is any charring of the meat; even more of these cancer-causing compounds are formed. To lessen the bad effects from these cooking methods; we can precook the meat, either in the microwave or by parboiling. Marinated meat also developed fewer of these nasty compounds; so if you like the taste of marinated meat, by all means do that. A note by me from person experience, do not precook your red meat in the microwave. It works to reheat but if you get it too hot it will drive the juices out; chicken is okay but not red meat.

To put some more rain on your parade; sorry, I want to mention processed meats such as luncheon meats, bacon, sausage, smoked sausage, hot dogs and the like. They all contain high levels of nitrites as preservatives and are linked to higher rates of cancer. Most of these are also cooked at high temperatures and are thus prone to developing the same cancer-causing compounds, a double whammy. Another reason not to eat processed meats is that in most cases we just do not know what we are eating. When we get a steak we can see what it is, but a smoked sausage is a mystery, even if we read the label.

Some good news. Grilled and roasted vegetables are a healthy addition to our diets. They do not develop those nasty cancer-causing compounds even when they are charred. Vegetables have always been a way to lower our chances of getting cancer; so when we do enjoy our red meat, it is recommended that two-thirds of our plate be vegetables. It is also recommended that we have meatless days and substitute plant-based proteins for the meat. Beans of all kinds, lentils and peas all offer us cheap high quality protein and when combined with brown rice, you have a complete meal. Enjoy and be healthy.

Can We Benefit From Twitter?

You may think that this is a stupid question to ask but I am perfectly serious. When we hear some of the things that people Tweet and what they Tweet about; you may think that Twitter serves no useful purpose for society. If that is how you feel, I beg to differ with your opinion, for that is not mine.

I am sixty-six years old and have only been on Twitter for about three months but I have found a lot to like about it. Before that I had always thought that Twitter and Facebook were a waste of time, like maybe watching reality TV or playing video games, something to keep our minds occupied so we wouldn’t have to think. Well I haven’t changed my mind about the reality TV or the video games but I sure have about Twitter and Facebook. Who knows, I could even be wrong about the others too, think about what a hoot that would be. I think with both Twitter and Facebook; you pretty well get out of it what you put into it. As with computers; garbage in, garbage out.

So how do we benefit from Twitter? You can find some of the world’s best wisdom there. From sayings by religious leaders and thinkers from hundreds and in some cases thousands of years ago to Steve Jobs in our time; with Benjamin Franklin, Gandhi and Martin Luther King in between. You can access more of the world’s knowledge through links from Tweets than you could possibly ever use.

For this blog; I am constantly looking for material I can use to get across my message. In the people I follow; I look for more than the frivolous remarks that most people think of when they think of Twitter. I look for quality information I can use to help myself and others. This could be how to cook a meal that is healthy and tastes good to help someone make better choices about what they eat. It could be information to help people understand what is good for them to eat and what is bad for them. What oils are best to cook with, what method of cooking is healthier, or what contributes to the formation of certain diseases. It could be how to be happy, how to stay positive when we are faced with a difficult situation, and how to see a solution to the problem. You will find experts in all fields that offer possible solutions to every problem imaginable; a lot of it for free. When we focus on the solution, instead of the problem, there is no end to what we can find.

So, how about we revise our thinking about Twitter as I have been doing and use it for what it is; a wonderful source of information. It is also an outpouring of love from people who have found their way and that want to shed some light on your path and let you find your way as well. That is the way some of these people make a living but I know that for a lot of them; maybe even most of them, the message is more important to them than what they make in sharing it. I know that is the case with me in my blogging efforts. Anyway there is more than enough free information out there to get you to a good start. Good luck to you.

Any of you who are my Facebook friends or followers you will see that I re -Tweet some of the sayings or quotes I see on Tweeter if they resonate with me. Sometimes it may be humor; I think everyone could use a good laugh now and then.

Thanks for visiting, you are always welcome here. May you and yours have a healthy and happy day.       David Johnson

Do You Miss The Blessings You Are Due?

I don’t mean do you think you are not being blessed or that you aren’t getting the blessings you deserve. I mean do you have blessings come into your life that you are just not aware of because you are focused on something else. Maybe not; sometimes we just go through life being pushed or lead wherever the forces around us sends us, like a rudderless boat  being carried by the current. Whether we are overly focused on the wrong thing or just unfocused we can miss what would otherwise be a blessing. When we predominantly focus on what is going wrong in our life, we tend to overlook what is happening that is good. We see what we are convinced in our mind we will see. If we expect to see good, we will; if we expect the bad, that is what we get.

Yesterday was a really beautiful day, here anyway. For a day in early February it was a wonderful day, sunny, a few clouds and temps in the low sixties. I knew from listening to the weather person on TV it was supposed to be nice but never fully realized how nice until I went outside. A dear friend and I had spoken about going for a walk, which we do fairly often, and we did. We really enjoyed the weather and each others company.

When I was younger, I am sure I would have enjoyed the day but would have also taken it for granted. I would have been aware it was a nice day but then not really; I wouldn’t have felt the gratitude that I feel now. It seems that the older I get the more I feel grateful for the smallest things sometimes. I wish it hadn’t taken all these years to bring me to that realization. The last couple of walks before the one I talked about were enjoyable; I was grateful for the opportunity but on one leg of the walk we were walking into a very cold wind and one day was especially bad. It didn’t hurt us, uncomfortable sure but I didn’t see it as a bad thing, it’s wintertime, what would we expect. I had a good warm fire to go back to. I could have just missed all the good in those two days if my attitude had been different. What was joyful could have been miserable.

The blessings are there; we just have to be open to seeing them and experiencing them. Two people can go through the same day with virtually the same experiences, one feeling blessed and enjoying the day and the other miserable and cursing everyone and everything. Which one do you want to be? We have to be open to seeing the good; focusing on the good, then it will be a good day.

I was telling someone about how much  I was grateful for yesterday and I realized I have gotten to where I am grateful for every day. At my age I have a lot less days yet to come than I once had and any day could be my last. That is true for everyone whatever our age. So if we are grateful to be alive; we should be grateful for every new day, regardless of what it may bring. Today it is cloudy, very windy with rain; I am grateful as hell for it. I have people who love me, good health, a roof over my heat, food to eat and I am glad to be alive. I hope you feel the same.

Thanks for visiting, you are always welcome here. May you and yours have a healthy and happy day.       David Johnson

Healthier Biscuits

DSC_0007Most of the time I am cooking breakfast for just myself but this morning that was different and they asked if I would make biscuits. So I did. As you probably already know I like to eat healthy food for the most part. When I make bread of any kind I want to use whole wheat flour or a combination of it and other nuts or grains. Today I used King Arthur Organic Whole Wheat flour. Now I do not normally use organic but a friend gave me a bag so I had some on hand. I usually use Ultragrain brand of White Whole Wheat; although it is all whole wheat, it seems to make a little lighter bread. The King Arthur did a fine job.

I started out with 2 Cups of the flower to which I added 2 teaspoons of wheat gluten, 2 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/3 cup of shortening ( butter, oil, or lard    will all work) , 3/4 cup of buttermilk, more or less. The flour mixture must be completely wet but should not be too wet or it will be sticky and hard to work with. If you do get it too wet just add more flour to it or make drop biscuits with it. By drop biscuits I mean take a spoon and drop balls of dough onto an oiled baking pan or you could drop them into muffin pans if you wanted a more uniform shape. Once you have your dry ingredients in a mixing bowl; mix well, add whatever oil or shortening you are using, mix and distribute as well as you can.  Then add buttermilk; starting with about a half cup, then more as needed until done. Then either drop your biscuits or roll them out and cut.

I rolled mine out. Sprinkle some flour on your counter top or use a smooth cloth that has been placed on your counter top and floured liberally. Once you have a good coating of flour, dump your dough out onto the floured surface. Sprinkle more flour over the top of dough; push down and flatten with you hand, then use a roller and roll to 1/2 – 3/4 inches thick. Use a biscuit cutter and cut out and put on an oiled baking pan. I used a tin can with one end cut out that I saved for that purpose, you can pick the size can that you like or have several sizes as I do. It helps to get the dough out if you take a can opener and punch a hole in the other end of the can. It prevents a vacuum from preventing the dough from coming out. If you want a smother dough, you can knead it and fold it over a few times before you roll it out. The less you work the dough; the lighter the biscuits though.

Bake at 475 degrees for 11 – 15 minutes or until golden brown. I would suggest you preheat the oven and put your pan on the middle or top rack in your oven or the bottoms might get too brown. You may want to brush with some melted butter before cooking or after you take them out, your choice. They did really turn out good, most people probably would like them even if they wouldn’t normally want whole wheat. With the flour I normally use they would be even lighter. At least give them a try. I have made these and added some ground flax seed, you really don’t even notice the flax but you get the benefit.

Enchilada Side

DSC_0013Last week I was thinking about making some enchiladas; I had some cooked chicken but wasn’t sure what else to put in them. I had some leftover Mexican rice in the frig but didn’t think I wanted to put rice in the enchilada itself. The last time I made enchiladas I made Mexican rice and refried beans to go with them. For some reason I was thinking black beans but didn’t think I wanted them inside the enchilada.

What I ended up doing was making the enchiladas with chicken and some cheddar jack cheese on corn tortillas. I usually use flour tortillas but have been reading that the corn ones are better for you; I don’t know, the calorie count is similar. Then I put the leftover Mexican rice in a covered oven proof dish, added a little water and stirred. Later while the enchiladas were in the oven I put the rice in to heat it up. Then I thought about what I could do with the black beans. I opened a can of black beans, drained and rinsed them, poured them into a mixing bowl; I then opened a can of whole kernel corn, drained and added to the bowl. Next I diced 1/4 of a medium yellow onion very fine, added to mixture, then about half of a yellow bell pepper and one whole tomato coarsely diced. Next I added the following to taste, starting with a little dash of El Pato  Salsa De Chile Fresco ( Mexican Hot Style Tomato Sauce), salt, black pepper, lime juice, chopped celantro and a little Sriracha Sauce. It was a little spicy but I like spicy; so as I said to taste, your or your families, not mine. Just don’t add too much spice at a time; you can always add more but it’s not as easy to take it out.

The enchiladas turned out good but what I was really proud of was the black bean salsa. I did have one slight problem with the corn tortillas; when I went to roll them they wanted to break, that even after I heated them in the microwave. Heating them in the microwave always worked for the flour ones. If anyone can give me a tip as to how I can prevent them from breaking; I would really appreciate it.

We had the enchiladas with the Mexican rice and the black bean salsa; it was better than Mexican restaurant meals I have had. Try the bean salsa; I think you will like it. Would be great with chips and healthy too, except for the chips, ha,ha. I will tell you how I do enchiladas at a later date.

When Nothing Else Works, Just Enjoy the Day

Earlier today I was just being open to inspiration for a subject to write about for tomorrow; maybe something not so heavy and serious as what I posted today, but something helpful in some way perhaps. Well it wasn’t going that well; usually if I don’t put too much pressure on myself to perform, something pops up. I usually don’t have a subject picked out but I just wait for something to catch my interest and go from there, works mostly. Sometimes it comes from something I read, something in the news or maybe something going on in my life at the present time. I guess that is what eventually happened today.

As anyone living in this area ( Northern Alabama ) and wasn’t locked in a dark room: would know, today was a beautiful day. The sun was bright and unobstructed with the temperature in the lower sixties, wonderful. Almost like spring, so I went outside and enjoyed it. I sat on my door step on the south side of my house and let myself absorb the sun’s warming rays not worrying a bit about whether it contained the makings of skin cancer. I think it felt too good to be bad and I got a good dose of Vitamin D as a bonus. I don’t believe all this crap about sun exposure being as bad as they make it out to be. Yes, if you lay out and cook yourself over and over again, then I am sure you may have a problem. I do believe that it will age the skin but mine is already pretty aged anyway and I don’t have a lot to lose. I never was pretty anyway.

I then walked the 1/4 mile to my mailbox and got my mail and gave my dog a chance to get all excited. She gets beside herself when I come outside and do anything where she can go with me. The news today said the Postal Service is going to stop Saturday delivery; so I guess it will cut down my exercise schedule. Some days there is nothing in the box when I get there but I have to go see; got to prevent the identity thieves from getting all my goodies   or so they say.

My dog and I then took a walk across the field behind my house to the creek running there. Only this morning there were several deer in that very field; released from the fear of the past hunting season, survivors, life goes on for them for another year. Three of them were within twenty feet of my back porch with me standing watching them. It has been just a few days since the creek was out and covering half the field but it is back in its banks, back to normal, if there is a normal in nature.. Sometimes it doesn’t take long for nature to recover, wish we were as resilient. There were still signs of the flood but no long-lasting damage. The water was clear and looking as pure as can be, the muddiness from the flood long gone, order restored.

I sat on a log and worked on a small problem I have been having lately with a technique called EFT. It is something I have been using for years but I sometimes forget to use it. Maybe I will tell you about it sometime.

I just noticed that the sun is about to set; you can really tell the days are getting longer but the sunset here is always a little earlier because of the mountain behind the house. So another day comes to a close; I am glad I chose to get out and enjoy it rather than sit here and get frustrated because I couldn’t get inspired to write something. Sometimes it just helps to take a break and reboot. When you come back you may be inspired too. Hope you all enjoyed the day as I did. Rain’s coming.

Use High Octane Fuel

If you want top performance from a high performance motor in your car or peak operating capacity from the body you live in; you must use the high octane fuel. Of course this is a metaphor but illustrates what I am going to talk about; and no, I don’t expect you to switch to gasoline for fuel. Throughout my reading and research about why we gain weight and why it is then so hard to lose it after we do; one thing keeps popping up over and over. Our problem is we overeat; no mystery there I guess, but for most of us, we are not doing it on purpose. There are a few people who will deliberately overeat to the point that you would think they have a death wish; maybe they do but that is not the case for most of us. The problem with most of us is the foods we choose to eat. They are either super high in fat and calories or they are so over processed that there is very few nutrients left in them. They are also loaded with high levels of salt, sugar, artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils and a list of other unpronounceable additives. It is certainly not high octane fuel; it is more like kerosene contaminated with dirt and trash. Your car wouldn’t run on it and your body is not performing as it was designed to either.

The reason we are overeating is we have to consume such a large amount of what we are eating in the attempt to get the nutrients we need. In a lot of cases we never get what we need so we just keep eating, never satisfied, always feeling the need for more even if we are already stuffed. I was just looking on the back of a box of Kraft Stove Top Stuffing Mix that had been in my cabinet for way to long; I finally emptied it out outside thinking there might be a starving bird that might want it, I guess it would beat nothing. The box says there are six servings inside; 170 calories, 80 from fat, 23% of our daily requirement of salt, 20g carbs, 1g fiber,2g sugar, and 3g protein in a half cup serving. I will tell you right now, no one is going to eat only 1/2 cup, for me it would probably be like 1 1/2, see where I am going here. What is missing from this food; it is it’s lack of nutrients in comparison  to the amount of fat and calories. There are also very few vitamins, minerals, no antioxidants,  no enzymes, no phytonutrients, no isoflavones and no anthrocyanins. For the same amount of calories you could consume a large plate of a combination of any of the following; broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, cucumber, peppers, tomatoes, radishes and many more. These would give you the list of nutrients above and also fill you up, they are nutrient dense, high octane.

To be healthy and to maintain a healthy weight we must consume a large portion of our food that is nutrient dense. Otherwise we will consume way to many calories in our attempt to get the nutrients we need and ultimately to feel satiated. The key is our body will tell us to quit eating when it gets what it needs, just listen to it. Feed your body what it needs first and you can still have some of the things you really like, even if they might not be that healthy in larger quantities. A few potato chips, a small serving of ice cream, a piece of cake, an occasional cheeseburger are not going to harm you if you are already eating healthy but If they are your diet; they will kill you.

I hope this helps. Comments and questions welcome.

Sweet Killer?

A few days back I had a post about the possible or probable harm from from drinking artificially sweetened drinks. Today I read something on Facebook that is along the same line of reasoning but it is specifically about Aspartane also known as Nutra Sweet and Equal. This seems to have been posted by Carl Barbaro on his Facebook page. I tried to determine who the author was and whether Mr. Barbaro was the author or if not where he obtained it. No such luck. Whether Mr. Barbaro or someone else; I would like to think the author for their effort and for the information. I hope this will be an eye opener to all who read it.

Sweet Killer
.In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick She had stomach spasms and she was having a hard time getting around. Walking was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain.By March 2002, she had undergone several tissue and muscle biopsies and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not determine what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick she just knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughter’s name, and made sure that her younger children were to be taken care of.She also wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd.

On March 19, I called her to ask how her most recent tests went, and she said they didn’t find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS.

I recalled an article a friend of mine e-mailed to me and I asked my sister if she drank diet soda? She told me that she did. As a matter of fact, she was getting ready to crack one open that moment.

I told her not to open it, and to stop drinking the diet soda! I e-mailed her an article my friend, a lawyer, had sent. My sister called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she had stopped drinking the diet soda AND she could walk! The muscle spasms went away. She said she didn’t feel 100% but, she sure felt a lot better.

She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home.

Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweeteners of any kind. In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda.. and literally dying a slow and miserable death

When she got to Florida March 22, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair! This article saved her life.If it says ‘SUGAR FREE’ on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on ‘ASPARTAME,’ marketed as’Nutra Sweet,’ ‘Equal,’ and ‘Spoonful.’In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant. I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject.

I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus.

Many people were being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is!

Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas.

In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. We’ve seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly.

This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia. During a lecture, I said, ‘If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs,
Cramps,
Vertigo,
Dizziness,
Headaches,
Tinnitus,
Joint pain,
Unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!’ People were jumping up during the lecture saying,’I have some of these symptoms. Is it reversible?’

Yes!
Yes!
Yes!
STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem. Dr. Espart (one of my speakers) remarked that so many people seem to be symptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice; a nurse stated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence!

Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates.

It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!

These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve ’tissue specimens.’

Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!

Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the ‘diet products’ and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period.Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance.

Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE.. Especially with diabetics, the Aspartame passes the blood/brain barrier and it then deteriorates the neurons of the brain; causing various levels of brain damage, Seizures, Depression, Manic depression, Panic attacks, Uncontrollable anger and rage.Consumption of Aspartame causes these same symptoms in non-diabetics as well. Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet.

So called ‘behavior modification prescription drugs’ (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed.Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place! Most of these children were being ‘poisoned’ on a daily basis with the very foods that were ‘better for them than sugar.’It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.

Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners.

There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison.’

Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included in 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning its use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, and still nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets.

Sadly, MONSANTO’S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED! There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a ‘piece of the Aspartame pie.’I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is.

And isn’t it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians?

This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. These [organizations] cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products.Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants.

The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioural symptoms.
The bill was killed. It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting and uninformed public. Well, you’re informed now!

<p>She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me when she got home.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Well, she called me, and said her doctor was amazed! He is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweeteners of any kind. In a nutshell, she was being poisoned by the Aspartame in the diet soda.. and literally dying a slow and miserable death</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>When she got to Florida March 22, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for the Aspartame poisoning! She is well on her way to a complete recovery. And she is walking! No wheelchair! This article saved her life.If it says 'SUGAR FREE' on the label; DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!I have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on 'ASPARTAME,' marketed as'Nutra Sweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful.'In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus. It was difficult to determine exactly what toxin was causing this to be rampant. I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants. The methanol toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Many people were being diagnosed in error. Although multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, Methanol toxicity is!</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision loss returned and hearing loss improved markedly.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>This also applies to cases of tinnitus and fibromyalgia. During a lecture, I said, 'If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc) and you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting, pains, numbness in your legs,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Cramps,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Vertigo,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Dizziness,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Headaches,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Tinnitus,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Joint pain,<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Unexplainable depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss you probably have ASPARTAME poisoning!' People were jumping up during the lecture saying,'I have some of these symptoms. Is it reversible?'</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Yes!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Yes!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
Yes!<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
STOP drinking diet sodas and be alert for Aspartame on food labels! Many products are fortified with it! This is a serious problem. Dr. Espart (one of my speakers) remarked that so many people seem to be symptomatic for MS and during his recent visit to a hospice; a nurse stated that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence!</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Diet soda is NOT a diet product! It is a chemically altered, multiple SODIUM (salt) and ASPARTAME containing product that actually makes you crave carbohydrates.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>It is far more likely to make you GAIN weight!</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>These products also contain formaldehyde, which stores in the fat cells, particularly in the hips and thighs. Formaldehyde is an absolute toxin and is used primarily to preserve 'tissue specimens.'</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Many products we use every day contain this chemical but we SHOULD NOT store it IN our body!</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Dr. H. J. Roberts stated in his lectures that once free of the 'diet products' and with no significant increase in exercise; his patients lost an average of 19 pounds over a trial period.Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that some physicians, who believed that they had a patient with retinopathy, in fact, had symptoms caused by Aspartame. The Aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control. Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are NEUROTOXIC when taken without the other amino acids necessary for a good balance.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Treating diabetes is all about BALANCE.. Documentation and observation also reveal that thousands of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have had complete turnarounds in their behavior when these chemicals have been removed from their diet.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>So called 'behavior modification prescription drugs' (Ritalin and others) are no longer needed.Truth be told, they were never NEEDED in the first place! Most of these children were being 'poisoned' on a daily basis with the very foods that were 'better for them than sugar.'It is also suspected that the Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War, may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects, i.e. mental retardation, if taken at the time of conception and during early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NEVER be given artificial sweeteners.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>There are many different case histories to relate of children suffering grand mal seizures and other neurological disturbances talking about a plague of neurological diseases directly caused by the use of this deadly poison.'</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Herein lies the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when Aspartame was included in 100 different products and strong objection was made concerning its use. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, and still nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>Sadly, MONSANTO'S patent on Aspartame has EXPIRED! There are now over 5,000 products on the market that contain this deadly chemical and there will be thousands more introduced. Everybody wants a 'piece of the Aspartame pie.'I assure you that MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame, knows how deadly it is.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>And isn't it ironic that MONSANTO funds, among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association and the Conference of the American College of Physicians?</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>This has been recently exposed in the New York Times. These [organizations] cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and are required to endorse their products.Senator Howard Metzenbaum wrote and presented a bill that would require label warnings on products containing Aspartame, especially regarding pregnant women, children and infants.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />
<p>The bill would also institute independent studies on the known dangers and the problems existing in the general population regarding seizures, changes in brain chemistry, neurological changes and behavioural symptoms.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />
The bill was killed. It is known that the powerful drug and chemical lobbies are responsible for this, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting and uninformed public. Well, you're informed now!

Are We Being Conned?

Are we being conned? Absolutely, we are, the sad part is we are allowing it to happen, and some of us may even want it to happen. So who is conning us and why. Our governments, local as well as state and federal; with the federal being the most guilty. The companies that make the products we use every day. Even the colleges and universities that were created to educate us. A recent poll says that only 26 % of us trust the federal government most of the time. That means that 74% of us do not trust our elected leaders and I use the word leaders, with a grain of salt. I never understood why people do not vote against the incumbent official in every election when they think that they are not doing the job they were elected to do. This over time, would lead to a positive change.

For this post I want to talk about how we are being conned when it applies to the food we eat. The food industry spends at least 7 billion dollars a year to convince us to eat the foods they manufacture; this overshadows the measly 4 – 5 million the government spends on its healthy eating campaign. These figures are at least five years old; no telling what the disparity is now. Even the information the government puts out has not led to our health being better. Ever wonder why the government keeps changing the food pyramid. They keep getting it wrong. Remember when they said we were eating too much fat and that if we would switch to a low-fat diet or change the kind of fat we eat that everything would be hunky-dory? Well cholesterol is down but 16 % of us took a prescription drug to get it there and we weigh more than ever. Good business for the companies that make the medicines. Maybe it is the government’s recommendation to eat more whole grains that has caused all the weight gain. The government regulates what schools can feed our kids and grandkids yet more and more of them are over weight and suffering from diseases that were normally not expected until middle age.

The government allows the food industry to use hundreds of different chemicals or chemical cocktails in the foods they manufacture. Everything from preservatives, flavor enhancers, colors, anti-caking agents thickeners, shelf-life enhancers and anything else they can dream up. A question; most of us like red velvet cake, would it not be just as tasty without the bottles of red food coloring in it. I would assume that most of these things they allow, by themselves may be relatively safe but what about when mixed with all the other chemicals they allow. Bomb making material maybe. I don’t have any evidence to suggest that the government is out to kill us off; but I guess they would have a lot less social security money to payout if they did. The problem as I see it; is that the government has two roles here, one to protect us and the other is to promote and help the food industry. I don’t see that they are doing their job. There would be just as much business for the food industry if they were required to produce wholesome, healthy foods but it would limit the degree of profits they could make. It might even increase their business because the products they did make would not set on the grocery shelves for months or years without all the chemical preservatives in them.

Just some food for thought. Your opinion welcome.

Don’t go there

“Don’t let your mind take you to places you may never need to go.Take each moment as it comes and let tomorrow take care of itself.” Found at Believe, on Facebook.

I don’t know who wrote the above quotation but for me it says a lot. I have never had a big problem with worry; I think, but I know people who make worrying a constant habit. Intellectually most of us know that worrying is a waste of time and energy and most probably even know that it is bad for our physical and mental health. Although I was not a constant worrier there have been times in my life where things seemed so overwhelming that I did worry. Did it help? No, I think about all it did was almost eat a hole in my stomach and caused a lot of lost sleep.

To me the first line ” Don’t let your mind take you to places you may never need to go.” Means never worry about something that may never happen and probably won’t. The second line, first half ” Take each moment as it comes” to me means that you probably are not going to stop it anyway and more than likely it is meant to happen that way. There was a point in time where a different action or response from you could have prevented it but it is harder to stop things that have already been set into motion. Maybe that just tells us to be mindful of all our actions as they all have consequences. The second, last half ” let tomorrow take care of itself” means to me that if we make the right choice today; we get the tomorrow we want.

How many times have you worried yourself half sick about something and what you most  feared would happen never did? How many times did the situation actually turn out better than you were even hoping it would? If you have a habit of worrying about most everything and feel you can’t stop doing it; set aside a designated time to worry. You could pick a daily time, such as 6:45 to 7:00 PM every evening or between 9:00 and 10:00 AM on Saturday mornings for instants. You will probably find that by the set time for you to worry; most of what you would have worried about didn’t happen or turned out well for you or is no longer a concern to you. You could even keep a list of the things you want to worry about and then you could see more clearly what is happening. You might even decided that it really is not worth your trouble to  worry. Let’s just say for a minute, that what you worried would happen, did, would your continued worrying have prevented it from occurring. I don’t think so.

I don’t know about you but I got a lot out of those two lines. My hat is off to the author, where ever they are.
